BUSINESS ARISING OUT OF THE MINUTES:

Financial Situation: The Acting Treasurer advised that the Club had made a small loss of $106.00 which would not affect the financial situation of the Club.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: The President presented his Report to the meeting. He referred to dwindling numbers at golf days and the Gala Golf Day on 15th November, 2015 and encouraged all Members to attend with registration for the day through the Secretary. It was noted that Charlie Earp had been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to make this day a success.

It was moved by K. Keller, seconded by M. Davidson that the President’s Report be received.

ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS:

PRESIDENT: R. McCloud was nominated by M. Davidson, seconded by S. Vardy. There being no further nominations Mr. McCloud was duly elected.

VICE PRESIDENT: K. Keller was nominated by R. McCloud, seconded by J. Hunt. It was voiced by S. Vardy that we have more than one Vice President to train up to the position of President. There being no further nominations, Mr. Keller was duly elected.

SECRETARY: J. Hunt was nominated by M. Davidson, seconded by K. Dixon. There being no further nominations, Ms Hunt was duly elected.

TREASURER: It was noted that Ross McCloud had fulfilled this position in a temporary situation for two years now and due to increasing work pressure a fresh nomination was required. As no-one was forthcoming, Mr. McCloud agreed to fill the position for another year only. He was therefore nominated by K. Keller, seconded by M. Davidson.

ADDITIONAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

The Secretary advised that Malcolm Smith had agreed to remain as a member of the Committee. He was nominated for the position by M. Davidson, seconded by D. Wilson.

GOLF PROGRAMME: The Secretary said she had only one venue, Ipswich for the 2016 Programme and asked those present to tell her what they wanted for the coming year. The general consensus was that there be four (4) games and a weekend at Bribie Island. This was moved on the motion of K. Keller, seconded by G. Ward. Some clubs suggested, Carbrook, Windaroo, Redland Bay, Boonah, Woodford, Oxley. It was also suggested that the Club play at more expensive Clubs, which would be at the expense of the Member over and above the $20.00 which is the present playing cost. It was suggested by K. Dixon that the selection of Clubs to be played, be on three tiered levels to give a variety of playing experience. This was considered a great idea.

GENERAL BUSINESS:

Members – HIO Club: S. Vardy told the meeting that he had contacted Clubs regarding new hole in one recipients, however, the Clubs did not seem interested in bringing awareness to the Hole In One Club and without the support of the individual Clubs it was very difficult.

Gailes – Home Club: D. Wilson asked the meeting why the HIO Club did not utilise the Gailes Club this year as it was our ‘Home Club’ Mr. Vardy advised that this was stated by a previous President, John Tiplady but had never been verified at a Committee meeting.

Ladies Prizes: D. Wilson also asked the meeting if ‘runner up’ prizes could be given to the ladies of the Club. Mr. McCloud said it would be looked at for the coming year.

There being no further business the meeting closed at 10.25am. The President thanked all for their attendance and their interaction in the meeting.

Gala Golf Day – Sunday 15th November 2015 at McLeod Golf Club

November 18th, 2015 by Hole In One | Posted in News, Results   Comments Off on Gala Golf Day – Sunday 15th November 2015 at McLeod Golf Club

It had rained heavily the day before, however, Sunday started with blue skies which turned to humidity and some slight showers passed over the field for about ten minutes just to cool everything down.

The event commenced with a ‘pep talk’ from our patron, Charlie Earp, and at 12 noon the 42 players hit off.

Prior to the presentation of the prizes, Ken Dixon, grandson of Clarrie Dixon who was the founding member of the Hole In One Club 75 years ago, spoke about his grandfather and his achievements, not only in golf where he achieved three hole in ones but tennis, bowls, cricket and other sports. Obviously a talented sportsman and it is to this man that we thank for his foresight in starting the Hole In One Club of Queensland.

The prizes were presented by the president, Ross McCloud – Three divisions for women and three divisions for the men.

Winners were:

Ladies Division 1 – Winner Diana Wilson and runner up Frances Nobel.

Ladies Division 2 – Winner Marian Nolan and runner up Carol Power.

Ladies Division 3 – Winner Kate Muir and runner up Margaret Earp.

Men Division 1 – Winner Ken McLean ocb and runner up Ken Dixon.

Men Division 2 – Winner Ray Kearney and runner up Des Mullan.

Men Division 3 – Winner Robert Handcock and running up Rony Richardson.

Congratulations to Malcolm Smith who had an eagle on the 4th.

The Nearest the Pins:

Ladies Hole 6 – Frances Nobel

Ladies Hole 16 – Diana Wilson

Mens Hole 12 – Ken McLean

Mens Hole 18 – Ken Dixon

We have to thank our wonderful donors – Royal Pines Hope Island, Pacific Harbour, Sanctuary Cove, McLeod Golf Club, Nudgee Golf Club, Ken Dixon and Matt Dowling from Acushnet Golf. We are indebted to these people for their interest in golf and their awareness of the great achievement ‘aceing’ in golf is.

Thanks to the committee and the complimentary thank yous from the participants. It was a challenge and I am glad everyone had a great time. The McLeod Golf Course looked spectacular – Thank you McLeod!!

Townsville 2015 Break-up Celebrations

October 27th, 2015 by Hole In One | Posted in News   Comments Off on Townsville 2015 Break-up Celebrations

Written by Greg Moffat

A very windy day greeted members (what else is new). There were two very good scores in the conditions with Rusty Butler declared the winner with 40 points. The other winner was Kay Baker also with 40 points.

The DRUMMOND GOLF NTP shots were won by Ian Fisher and Bev Hooper. DRUMMOND GOLF have donated our NTP Prizes all year and their generous sponsorship is greatly appreciated.

Rundown balls were allocated to – Billy Connor, Pat Mildren, Graham Mullins, Jon Marshall, Jim Baker and Terry Kingston.

As this was our last Round for 2015 the Winners of Major Prizes were determined.

The Champion golfers for 2015 were:

Ladies – KAY BAKER – HER 4 BEST SCORES WERE 34, 43, 40, 40 A TOTAL OF 159 POINTS. To score 40 points in your 4 best is a good effort and Kay’s remarkable effort of 3 scores in the 40’s made for very tough competition.

Men – BILLY CONNOR – HIS 4 BEST SCORES WERE 41, 37, 36, 35 A TOTAL OF 149 POINTS. Billy was consistent with his scoring all season.

Both Kay and Billy will have their achievements acknowledged on the HIO (Inc) Perpetual Trophy and look after the trophy for 6 Months each.

Runners Up were Bev Hooper in the Ladies and Richard Kelly who was tied with Billy coming into the last round but could not improve his score because he is swanning around Europe! Kay, Bev, Billy and Richard all receive a Shirt from our very generous Sponsor NORSTATE AGENCIES. Lauren from NORSTATE AGENCIES HAS BEEN A VERY GENEROUS SPONSOR OF OUR BREAK UP DAYS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. Lauren has no special interest in Golf which makes her very generous donation each year even more remarkable. Her email address is sales.

Other shirts were given to our regulars who played all rounds or missed only one.
They were –
Bev Hooper Gail Mullins, Graham Mullins, and Don Johnston who played all eight rounds
Billy Connor, Richard Kelly, Jon Marshall, Greg Moffat who missed only 1 round this season

AGM
I was elected convenor for the next season and Gail Mullins has accepted the role as Treasurer once again.

In general business it was decided to send flowers to Lauren Gross from NORSTATE AGENCIES in acknowledgement of her generous sponsorship.

Next year we will continue to play Single Stablefords once a Month on Sundays at Townsville Golf Club. When the dates are decided I will forward details.

Finally, if you hear of anyone who has a Hole In One please let me know the details and I will make contact.

Hoping everyone has a safe Christmas and New Year.

Toowoomba Social Weekend

October 15th, 2015 by Hole In One | Posted in News, Results   Comments Off on Toowoomba Social Weekend

The weekend started off with a beautiful day at Laidley GC – 17 players and new member Vanessa Lawrence and husband Dave in attendance. We played a 2Ball Ambrose with a ‘twist’, which everyone seemed to enjoy. The game was won by Geoff Lewis and Malcolm Smith, who were playing off a combined handicap of 3. Congratulations to them!!

The dinner at City Golf Entertainment venue was enjoyable but very noisy; unable to converse easily. Some of the group did well on the Keno!!

The City Golf Game was a 4BBB with your own choice of partner with 20 players. The weather was kind to us once again. The Toowoomba boys, John Green & Geoff Lewis, with their ‘local’ knowledge won the day with 41 pts.

A special thank you to all who attended. Thank you also to Gayle Szylejko, Liz Barnes and Sharon Woods (non players) for coming along and supporting the players. It was great to get to know you a little better and have a few laughs. Next year we are going to Bribie Island – start organising your calendar!!
