On Sunday 22^nd October the Townsville section of the HIO (Qld) Inc played Round 8 and final round for the season.

What a day! Whilst our HIO (Inc) Qld Perpetual Trophy was to be awarded for our Men and Lady Champion Golfers of the year the highlight was Kay Baker achieving a Hole In One on the 6^th Hole at Townsville Golf Club.

Whilst the male members of the group were not watching(!) the ladies in the following group saw it all happen… refer Photo Gallery.

HIO Secretary has confirmed that Kay is awarded Life Membership of the Club for her achievement.

The final round was played under overcast skies and rain scuds moving through (no one in Townsville is complaining about rain).

Our final round is sponsored by Lauren Gross of NORSTATE AGENCIES for many years and this year Lauren (a non golfer) was  convinced to have a game with the one shotters.

Whilst Lauren may not take up the game she thoroughly enjoyed the social side on the course and in the Club House afterwards !

Conditions made scoring difficult but Rance Williams with a score of 38 points was an excellent score in the conditions.

The Other Winner was Kay Baker with a score of 33 points (1 a 5 certainly helps the score!)

Special mention should be made of the members who played all 8 rounds this year they were Jane Flynn, Bev Hooper, Dei Matthews, Gail Mullins and Graham Mullins.

The Champion Golfers of the year is awarded to the Men’s & Ladies player who have achieved the best Total points score from their best 4 rounds during the HIO season.

This season the Champion Lady Golfer was Jane Flynn with her best scores of 36,38,44,41 Total 159

The Champion Male Golfer was Bruce Dunn with best scores of 32,43,41,39 Total 155. Bruce was the defending Champion Golfer so next year will be looking for a 3 peat. (Photo of Jane and Bruce).

It was pleasing to see so many of the players able to stay back and partake in drinks & sausage sizzle before presentations.

This year we asked Lauren to present the perpetual trophy to Bruce and Jane as well all players today were given a Shirt from NORSTATE AGENCIES. As I said a great sponsor !
